About Me: Laura Richardson BSc/BA (Hons), MA (Hons)

I'm a parent, a Porirua local and a passionate advocate for young people building confidence.

Find Your Voice was born from a personal journey. As a young person, I discovered that learning speech and drama not only built my confidence but also helped me excel in many areas of life. It equipped me for public speaking in both work and volunteer settings, taught me to plan engaging speeches, and ignited a lifelong love for poetry, prose, and drama.

This transformative experience inspired me to create a space where other young people in Porirua can find their own voice and unlock their full potential.

I'm am now completing my Licentiate with Speech NZ, and am teaching both privately and through itinerant teaching at local schools.

My teaching approach

I offer small classes, typically with 2-4 students, allowing me to focus on each child's particular needs and strengths, while also providing an audience for each child to perform for.

I am a passionate and enthusiastic teacher, dedicated to drawing out what makes every student unique and what truly excites them. My classes are tailored to each child's interests; they can give talks on their passions, read from texts they find thrilling, and act and improvise in a fun and fulfilling environment.

My philosophy and what I stand for

At Find Your Voice, I believe in laying the foundations for a lifetime of confident communicating, acting, and reading.

My goal is for children to enjoy their classes and grow their confidence. Speech and Drama lessons build essential life skills in a supportive and engaging atmosphere.

Further, exams with the Speech NZ are nationally recognised and provide an excellent addition to a student's C.V. and future career prospects.
